They say the customer is always right, but few can claim to be so ‘right’ that they convinced a well known supermarket to change the name of one of its most popular products. Well, 3 ½ year old Lilly Robinson can. After Lily wrote to Sainsbury’s asking “Why is it called Tiger bread? It should be called Giraffe bread?” she not only received a personalised letter responding to her question, but the supermarket actually went ahead and renamed the bread. How often do you come across such a glowing example of customer care? In this age of digitalisation, personalised communication from business to consumer seems to be getting rarer and rarer. So what has happened to the ‘customer relationship’?
